In the Ustyurt region, near the Muynak field, an industrial-scale flow of high-pressure natural gas has been identified at the Shagirlik – Lower Jurassic exploration well No.2. The discovery once again confirms the strong hydrocarbon potential of the area.
The site was prepared for deep exploration drilling based on data obtained from 3D seismic surveys conducted by JSC “Uzbekgeophysics” and the State Unitary Enterprise “Institute of Geology and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields”, operating under the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology.
A notable aspect of the project is that the well was drilled by highly qualified specialists from the Company and its Project Management Office. This office was formed on the instruction of the Head of State and includes experts who gained hands-on experience in leading international oil and gas companies.
On January 10, 2026, the well was drilled to a total depth of 5,265 meters. In the interval between 5,061 and 5,265 meters, within the Lower Jurassic formations, stable accumulations of natural gas were identified, characterized by high reservoir pressure.
To further study the geological structure of the Lower Jurassic horizons and to define the boundaries of the discovered gas accumulations, it is planned to drill exploration and appraisal wells No.3 and No.4 in this area.
