The U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan has announced that the issuance of visas under the Diversity Visa (DV) program has been suspended with immediate effect.
According to the embassy, the U.S. Department of State has halted the approval and issuance of all Diversity Visas. While applicants are still allowed to submit required documents and attend scheduled visa interviews, no DV visas will be issued at this time.
“Diversity visa applicants may submit visa applications and attend interviews, and the Department will continue to schedule applicants for appointments, but no DVs will be issued. Existing diversity visa appointments generally will not be rescheduled or cancelled,” the embassy said in a statement.
The embassy added that the Department of State will notify applicants and provide updates as soon as additional information becomes available.
Earlier, the United States suspended the Green Card lottery following a shooting at Brown University, in which an 18-year-old native of Uzbekistan was among the victims. U.S. authorities stated that the shooter had entered the country through the Diversity Visa
