The old Traverse used a 3.6L naturally aspirated V6 engine. The new Traverse Z71 switches to a 2.5L turbo engine with higher output (328 hp). Despite the smaller engine, low-speed performance is improved. The transmission changes from a 9-speed to an 8-speed automatic. The new Z71 adopts a more rugged design, aimed at rougher road conditions. Inside, larger digital displays and a cleaner layout are introduced. Safety systems remain similar but feel better integrated. Fuel consumption is slightly higher.
