Eco-Friendly Transport: The Future of Our Cities

In the coming years, the development of public transport in the capital and major cities will become a top priority. Special lanes for buses and taxis will be expanded across urban streets, helping to reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility for residents.
Intelligent traffic management systems based on smart traffic lights will be introduced in Tashkent, Samarkand, and Namangan. These systems will regulate traffic flows in real time, increasing road safety and ensuring more efficient movement throughout the cities.
A five-year program aimed at increasing the number of environmentally friendly vehicles will also be implemented. Under this program, car loans at an interest rate of 12% will be available for locally produced electric vehicles, while imported electric vehicles will be financed at 16%. These measures are designed to encourage wider adoption of electric transport and reduce harmful emissions.
To support the development of charging infrastructure, entrepreneurs who establish electric vehicle charging stations will receive concessional loans at 10%. In addition, land plots for charging stations can be purchased at prices twice as low as auction rates. Another important incentive is state compensation: any cost of electricity exceeding 300 soums per kilowatt-hour used for charging electric vehicles will be covered by the state budget.
Citizens providing taxi services using electric vehicles will also benefit from a range of incentives, further increasing the share of eco-friendly taxis in urban transport systems.
If these initiatives are implemented effectively, the capital, regional centers, and major cities can gradually transform into areas where only eco-friendly transport operates.
At the same time, large-scale environmental projects will be carried out to prevent dust and sand storms and improve overall ecological conditions. In Surkhandarya region, a “green zone” covering 10,000 hectares will be created, while an 84-kilometer-long “green wall” will be built in Syrdarya region. In Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Bukhara, and Navoi regions, a total of 250,000 hectares of land will be greened, including 115,000 hectares on the dried bed of the Aral Sea.
These initiatives represent a significant step toward sustainable urban development, a cleaner environment, and a higher quality of life for present and future generations.
