A military helicopter crash in Qatar’s territorial waters has resulted in the deaths of all seven people on board. Authorities confirmed that the aircraft went down during what was described as a routine mission.

What caused the crash?

According to statements from both Qatari and Turkish defence ministries, the helicopter experienced a technical malfunction. The issue occurred mid-flight, leading to the fatal crash. Officials emphasized that there is currently no evidence suggesting any hostile or external involvement.

Who were the victims?

Among those killed were four members of the Qatar Armed Forces, one officer from the Qatar-Turkiye joint forces, and two technicians. The victims were identified as Captain Mubarak Salem Daway al-Marri, Sergeant Fahad Hadi Ghanem al-Khayarin, Corporal Mohammed Maher Mohammed, Captain Saeed Nasser Samekh, Major Sinan Tastekin, and Turkish civilians Suleiman Cemra Kahraman and Ismail Anas Can.

What did officials say?

Qatar’s Ministry of Defence expressed its deep condolences to the families of the victims. Meanwhile, Turkey’s Ministry of National Defence confirmed that one of its soldiers and two personnel from defence company Aselsan were among the deceased. It added that the helicopter was on a training flight when the malfunction occurred.
