Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi launches a four-year undergraduate program in Uzbek.

What New Program Is Being Introduced?

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), a central university located in India’s capital, New Delhi, is preparing to launch a full four-year bachelor’s degree program. Beginning with the upcoming academic year, students will be able to specialize in the Uzbek language while also studying Uzbekistan’s literature and cultural heritage.

According to Dunyo.info, the initiative has already been formally approved by the university’s administration.

Why Is This Initiative Important?

The launch of the program reflects the steady expansion of the Uzbek language within India’s educational landscape. The project is expected to elevate academic cooperation between Uzbekistan and India to a new level.

Establishing a specialized bachelor’s degree marks a significant milestone in long-term bilateral educational collaboration.

How Did Uzbek Language Studies Begin at JMI?

With the support of Uzbekistan’s diplomatic mission in New Delhi, Uzbek language instruction at Jamia Millia Islamia was first introduced in 2004. Over the years, a strong academic foundation has been built.

Graduates with expertise in Uzbek language and related disciplines are in demand in tourism, business, diplomacy, and research sectors.

How Does the New Format Differ From Previous Programs?

Until recently, the university offered only one-year certificate and diploma courses. Uzbek was also taught primarily as an optional elective subject.

The transition to a comprehensive four-year bachelor’s degree highlights growing interest in Uzbekistan’s language and culture, as well as increasing demand for qualified specialists in this field.
