Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States would not use military force to acquire Greenland. The remarks were delivered amid heightened international attention and ongoing debate surrounding Washington’s interest in the territory.
The World Economic Forum is a Geneva-based think tank and international event organizer whose flagship annual meeting has been held in Davos, a Swiss ski resort town with a population of about 10,000, since its launch in 1971.
Over the years, the forum has evolved into a broad global conference addressing issues such as economic inequality, climate change, technological development, as well as international cooperation, competition, and conflict.
According to the organizers, this year’s meeting brought together a record number of nearly 400 senior political leaders, including more than 60 heads of state and government, alongside approximately 850 chairs and chief executive officers from leading global companies.
The 2026 forum is taking place against an exceptionally complex geopolitical backdrop. President Trump’s statements and policy positions on Venezuela, Greenland, and Iran, combined with his aggressive tariff measures, have significantly disrupted established global dynamics.
These developments have intensified discussions about the future of the international order and raised fresh questions regarding the role of the United States in global affairs.
