Why Is the U.S. Considering Sending a Second Aircraft Carrier?
U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the United States is considering deploying another military aircraft carrier to the Middle East. This announcement has heightened concerns about potential renewed tensions between the U.S. and Iran.
Previously, the U.S. had already stationed one aircraft carrier in the region. Now, one of the following carriers — USS George Washington, USS George H.W. Bush, or a Ford-class carrier — could be sent. However, it would take at least one week for any of these ships to arrive in the region.

In an interview with Israeli media, Trump said that if no agreement is reached, the U.S. would take “very tough measures.” According to him, there are two options: reaching a deal or moving toward decisive actions.
Earlier, Trump, together with Israel, had carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Last month, during domestic protests, the possibility of military intervention was mentioned, though no such decision was ultimately made.
What Is the Main Disagreement Over Uranium Enrichment?
Washington is demanding that Iran give up its stockpile of uranium enriched to 60 percent. This level is considered close to weapons-grade enrichment, which is around 90 percent.
Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, emphasized that the possibility of diluting the 60-percent enriched uranium depends on the full lifting of sanctions. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that the country will not renounce its right to enrichment.
Following Trump’s strikes, Tehran announced that the enrichment process had been halted, but it consistently maintains that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes.
How Is the Ballistic Missile Program Affecting the Talks?
The U.S. aims to broaden the scope of negotiations to include limitations on Iran’s ballistic missile program. This issue is strongly supported by Israel.
Tehran, however, has stated that its missile arsenal has been restored and is not open for discussion. Iranian officials have emphasized that the U.S. should make decisions independently of external pressure.
