Crans-Montana, Switzerland. A devastating fire at the Constellation bar in one of Switzerland’s most exclusive ski resorts has claimed the lives of about 40 people, while more than 100 others were injured.
According to police, the fire erupted on New Year’s Eve while the venue was packed with guests celebrating the holiday. The flames spread rapidly through the bar, triggering panic among those inside.
Witnesses said thick smoke and intense heat made evacuation extremely difficult. Emergency services responded quickly, but the large crowd and the speed of the fire left little chance to prevent heavy casualties.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, with several reported to be in critical condition. Authorities have launched an official investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
