What is Laylat Al Qadr?
Laylat Al Qadr is considered the most sacred night of the year for nearly two billion Muslims around the world. Often translated as the “Night of Power” or the “Night of Glory,” it commemorates the beginning of the prophethood of Prophet Muhammad.
According to Islamic tradition, it was during this night in 610 AD that the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad through the mediation of the Archangel Gabriel.
Why is it called the Night of Power?
Laylat Al Qadr is associated with immense spiritual blessings and divine mercy. The Quran describes this night as being more valuable than a thousand months. As mentioned in Surah Al Qadr (Chapter 97), “The Night of Glory is better than a thousand months.”
When does Laylat Al Qadr occur?
The exact date of Laylat Al Qadr is unknown. Muslims are encouraged to seek it during the odd-numbered nights within the final ten days of Ramadan.
Because of this uncertainty, many believers dedicate these nights to increased prayer, reflection, and acts of devotion in hopes of witnessing this blessed night.

Acts of worship performed during Laylat Al Qadr are believed to carry rewards greater than decades of devotion. According to Surah Al Qadr (97:3), worship on this night is better than a thousand months — equivalent to more than 83 years of devotion.
