What happened at the “Osh Markazi” café in Shchuchinsk?

A tragic incident occurred in the city of Shchuchinsk, located in the Burabay district of Kazakhstan’s Akmola region, where an explosion rocked the “Osh Markazi” dining establishment. The blast was followed by a fire that quickly spread through the premises.

According to preliminary information, six people were killed as a result of the explosion and subsequent blaze. Nearly 20 others sustained injuries of varying severity. Further details about the circumstances are still being clarified.

How were the rescue and firefighting operations carried out?

The Akmola Region Department of Emergency Situations reported that firefighters and emergency response teams promptly arrived at the scene. During the operation, rescuers removed eight gas cylinders from inside the building to prevent additional explosions.

More than 10 individuals were safely evacuated from the site. As of 22:40 Moscow time, the fire had been completely extinguished. The department shared the update on its official Instagram page.

What investigations are underway?

Emergency services personnel, the deputy head of the Akmola regional administration, medical teams, police officers, and representatives of the gas technical inspection are currently working at the scene.
