What changes are planned for electric taxi drivers?
Uzbekistan is preparing to introduce new incentives for citizens providing taxi services using electric vehicles. These measures are outlined in a draft presidential decree developed within the State Program for implementing the “Uzbekistan — 2030” strategy during the Year of Mahalla Development and Public Welfare.
Who will be eligible for these benefits?
The incentives are designed for individuals officially registered as self-employed and offering taxi services exclusively with electric vehicles. This group of drivers will receive several financial and operational advantages.
What tax incentives are being introduced?
Self-employed electric taxi drivers will be granted a discount of up to 30 percent on the mandatory social tax, significantly reducing their overall tax burden.
What parking benefits will be available?
The draft decree proposes allowing electric taxi drivers to use paid parking areas owned by state organizations free of charge for up to 30 minutes. This includes parking facilities at airports and railway stations.
How will safe and eco-friendly drivers be rewarded?
A new practice is planned to award the “Defender of Nature” badge to drivers who cover at least one million kilometers while providing taxi services with an electric vehicle without any traffic accidents or violations.
Is support provided for charging electric vehicles?
For all electric vehicle drivers, the portion of electricity costs exceeding 300 soums per kilowatt-hour at charging stations will be compensated from the State Budget.
When will the benefits take effect and who is responsible?
The proposed incentives are expected to come into force on March 1, 2026. The Ministry of Transport, the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and regional and Tashkent city administrations are designated as responsible authorities.
What results are expected from these measures?
As a result of these initiatives, the number of self-employed electric taxi drivers is expected to reach 300,000. At the same time, air pollution caused by internal combustion engine vehicles is projected to decrease by 7 percent.
